Dare You To by Katie McGarry

Pages: 462
Goodreads rating: 4.25 / 5 stars
My Rating:  5/5 Stars
Genre: YA Contemporary Romance

Ryan lowers his lips to my ear. "Dance with me, Beth."

"No." I whisper the reply. I hate him and I hate myself for wanting him to touch me again....

"I dare you..."

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk's home life, they'd send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom's freedom and her own happiness. That's how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn't want her and going to a school that doesn't understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn't get her, but does....

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can't tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn't be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won't let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all....

My Review:
I find Dare You To better than Pushing the Limits.I really like this good boy/bad girl love story. We met Beth on the previous book and she really is a bad girl you don't want to mess with. As we get to know her in this book, she's someone who tries to be tough and has a rebellious image. I feel sorry for her because she didn't deserve to suffer at a very young age. She didn't deserve that life. She deserves a home, a guardian who will take care of her. Not the other way around. She somehow gets on my nerves for doing what she wants without THINKING. Such a stubborn lady.

There goes Ryan, who doesn't have the guts to stood up for his own decisions in life. (which annoyed me as well. Thanks to Beth for giving him a WAKE UP CALL.) He maybe a popular guy but he's not a playboy. He did change in the end, and I'm happy for him. A guy who tries to protect his lady love, that's romantic.:)

I'm also looking forward for Isaiah on the next book, hopefully he will find someone that will truly love him.

I dare you to read this, because it's a good one.

Cryer's Cross by Lisa McMann

Pages: 256
Goodreads rating: 3.74 / 5 stars
My Rating:  3 /5 Stars
Genre: YA, Paranormal, Mystery

Summary/ Review:

Please. Save Me.

Kendall Fletcher lives in a small town of Cryer's Cross with her best friend Nico, whom she had known forever. One strange disappearance turned their town into a haunting place. Some people were clueless of how this happened. No clues or hint at all. It's completely strange.

When Nico disappeared out of the blue, Kendall's world shattered. Aside of having OCD, she becomes more suspicious on a person she didn't expect to feel something... the one she needs to stay away. She wants to do everything just to find Nico, hoping he is still alive.

Everyone is in danger. Something hidden in this mysterious town awaits to be unlocked. Kendall is going to find that out. To keep everyone safe before it's too late. Or else, there will be a new victim.

Interesting, mysterious and spooky, but the pace was slow. It was a bit boring and the only thing that I like in this book was the last part. It gave me creeps, but it's not enough to give me goosebumps.  I've read this while it's raining hard then the electricity went  off, there are flashes of lightning outside my window and I'm alone in the house. Just great! somehow it adds to the creepy/scary factor.

   Overall, it's a good one.

Reading Slump

What is a reading slump?

  • a feeling wherein you are not in the mood to read.

Am I experiencing it?
YES... and I HATE IT! I hate this feeling of not in the mood to read. We readers want to finish a book no matter how thick it is or how boring the book is. As much as possible, we want to add most of the books on "read" pile, not on the "DNF" pile or Did-Not-Finish pile or "On-hold".

I read random genres and I tend to explore it. There are just times that I'm in the mood to read this, sometimes I don't. It just needs timing.

Other reasons why I'm having reading slumps

  1. The story is so slow. I keep waiting for something to happen.. something that will hit my excitement but nothing happens.
  2. You start a good book then halfway through it, things are getting boring. Not exciting at all.
  3. When the book confuses me. Particularly lack of descriptions, I just don't understand what the heck is happening. Maybe I need some clarifications or something.
  4. Highfalutin words. Gosh. Brain hemorrhage! Nose bleed!                                                                         (PS. Good thing e-readers have a built-in dictionary. For those reading paperbacks/hardcovers, put the dictionary beside you. Just in case. It's tiring looking back and forth though.)
  5. Other hobbies like surfing the internet, listening to music, watching a TV show or movies, etc..
  6. Lastly, when you thought it's a good book, all of a sudden you HATE it.

Oh well. I need to get out of this slump ASAP.

Do you guys experience this? How do you get out of it?

Hello there!

I am officially reactivating my blog. I have this account since 2010 and I don't know how to use this one before. I guess it takes time learning about this site, but I'm happy to be back on this. I'm a newbie blogger!

I'm Beatrice Masalunga from the Philippines, 19 years old and I love reading books (I read random genres). Aside from that, I also love watching movies, listening to old tunes, playing video games and playing Badminton.

I'm a Potterhead. This is so obvious. I'm a forever Harry Potter fan!

Anyways, I'll be posting my book reviews here, the books that I want to read, the books that I'm currently reading ...etc. :) I'm looking forward to meet you all.
