Gayle Forman in Manila

All The Feels Philippines

I've been so excited in meeting Gayle Forman. I'm so prepared for this event and did you know that I almost didn't attend this too? I really thought I wouldn't be able to see her, but God is good. I met her.
Meeting her is an early birthday gift to me. I won't forget January 18 because her book signing is the same day as my thesis defense and our family gathering

You might find it ridiculous, but I wished that day that I could divide myself into three parts. Everything just happened on the SAME DAY AT THE SAME TIME. Of course, I have to attend on our thesis defense. It ended @ 7pm (We passed the defense by the way, which is so good!) and I was so late on the book signing event. I wasn't able to hear her interviews and I keep texting or calling my bookworm friends to update me. I almost lose my hope that day and I prayed that I would get to see her though I'm so late. When I arrived....

The signing has begun.

and still...

I met & hugged her...

and got my copies signed :)

I also met my Goodreads/Bookworm friends. Camille, Rhyzza, Jane, and Allen (not pictured). I so love meeting new bookish friends. :) I'll see you guys again soon!
(L-R) Camille, Me, Rhyzza & Jane

More book signings to come folks!

Anna & The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Pages: 372
Goodreads rating: 4.20/5 stars
My rating: 5/5 stars
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Summary (Goodreads):
Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. She is less than thrilled about boarding school in Paris - until she meets √Čtienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, he has it all - including a serious girlfriend. Will Anna get her French kiss?

My Review:
I would say it's one adorable contemporary novel. I really enjoyed every page of this novel and I can't help giggling while reading! It's so cute, romantic and sweet plus it sets is Paris, France that makes it even more romantic.

It was never easy to moved to a place where you aren't familiar with especially when you're away from your home. It makes you home sick. Living in France wasn't easy for Anna Oliphant, a daughter of a famous author. She need to adapt in her new environment by learning their language and culture. She met new friends along the way but she's attracted to one guy, Etienne St. Clair. Their friendship was complicated because he was dating someone and Anna was sort-of-dating but their attraction to each other was undeniably growing.  They do share some sweet moments. ;)

I simply adore the characters, the setting, even the cheesy lines. It was indeed entertaining and it was worth reading this novel. It makes me want to go to Paris and visit the Eiffel Tower and the Shakespeare and Company Bookstore. (I would definitely buy a book in that store, someday. :D ) Plus, I love Etienne St.Clair! He's one swoon-worthy guy. I just love him!

This is absolutely recommended if you're looking a book for Valentine's Day.

Streaks of Blue by Jack Chaucer

Pages: 259
Goodreads rating: 3.52/ 5 stars
My rating: 3/5 stars
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Realistic Fiction

Summary (Goodreads):

Adam Upton and Thomas "Lee" Harvey are plotting the next big school massacre at their New Hampshire high school. Nicole Janicek, who knew Adam in elementary school, tries to reconnect with the damaged teen at the start of their senior year. But will Nicole’s attempt to befriend the would-be killer disrupt the plot and turn Adam’s life around before the clock strikes 12:14?

My Review:
Thank you Netgalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Nicole Janicek had a dream that there will be a shootout in their school, killing innocent lives of each students and teachers by Adam Upton, who's known for having a bad reputation on everyone. She must prevent this to happen by being friends with him. She believes he wasn't a bad person and is needed for someone to understand his awful life situation. Nicole showed him that life is precious and shouldn't be wasted because everyone has a chance to become better despite of downfalls. Taking away innocent lives is not an answer to vent out anger and seeking revenge on people who hurt you.

Remembering the victims in Sandy Hook was truly an unforgettable devastating event. It broke not only the families' victims but as well as the people who watched the news about it.

After reading this, I wonder if the person responsible on what happened on Sandy Hook was a broken one like Adam? Maybe he needs someone who could help him resolve his problems and needs a friend who can listen to him? If that friend of his was like Nicole, I bet it wouldn't happen at all.

The story was okay. Some parts are quite boring and not necessary on the story. I think it should be more focused on Nicole and Adam and as well as Adam's family on how did he became a bad boy.

Wallbanger by Alice Clayton

Pages: 384
Goodreads rating: 4.23/ 5 stars
My rating: 3/5 stars
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Humor, Chick Lit, New Adult

Summary (goodreads)
The first night after Caroline moves into her fantastic new San Francisco apartment, she realizes she's gaining an intimate knowledge of her new neighbor's nocturnal adventures. Thanks to paper-thin walls and the guy's athletic prowess, she can hear not just his bed banging against the wall but the ecstatic response of what seems (as loud night after loud night goes by) like an endless parade of women. And since Caroline is currently on a self-imposed dating hiatus, and her neighbor is clearly lethally attractive to women, she finds her fantasies keep her awake even longer than the noise. So when the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts Simon Parker, her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. The tension between them is as thick as the walls are thin, and the results just as mixed. Suddenly, Caroline is finding she may have discovered a whole new definition of neighborly...

My Review:

"Be aware of the walls you build and what could be on the other side."
- Confucius

Unbelievable. My first book of 2014 started with a bang! What.the.Heck.Did.I.Just.Read. I do recommend this book if you want to LAUGH OUT LOUD TILL YOUR JAW HURTS (but only for 18+). Some jokes are just not appropriate for young age.

It has cute conversations and I just can't help laughing! I look like crazy laughing alone while reading this.Who wouldn't laugh at the following:
- The O
- Lower Caroline
- Wang.....Waaaaaaaang.
- Apples.Pie. hahaha!
- Pink Nightie Girl
- Harem, Spanx, giggler, and PURINA. Commando.God Bless America
- and my favorite...... CLIVE THE CAT. This little buddy is the Best Cat Ever!

Despite all these innuendos, I was a bit disappointed in the story because it's just MERELY getting Caroline's O again. That's it.I was waiting for  a conflict to happen or something that will surprise me. I wish there's more story to it.

Liebster Award (1)

Hello everyone and Happy New Year to all of you! This is my first nomination on Liebster Award and I was nominated by Aneta of Angelic Book Reviews . Thank you so much for nominating me. :D
This Liebster Award was given to bloggers by bloggers with amazing new blogs and has less than 200 followers.

Here are the Rules:
1. Link back to the blog that mentioned you.
2. Answer the questions they set for the blogs they nominated.
3. Nominate 10 blogs of your own, and be sure to let them know with a link to your post.
4. Ask 10 questions for the blogs you nominated in your post.

Aneta's Questions:

1. How did you chose the name for your blog?
  • It started with the book "Confessions of a Shopaholic" by Sophie Kinsella. Buying books  is my stress reliever whether it's sale or not or maybe a reward for myself (it depends on the situation). So yeah, I'm a Bookaholic and the word Pinay means a female Filipino. ahaha!
2. What was your favorite book from 2013?
  • Please refer to my post here: My Best 13 Books of 2013 . It's hard to choose one favorite, because each book I've read were good in all sorts of way.
3. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
  • I want to live in Spain. I love their language.
4. Who is your favorite hero/heroine?
  • I have lots of favorite heroes/heroines. My all time favorite heroine is Lisbeth Salander from The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson and as for the hero, Four from Divergent by Veronica Roth is my all time favorite.
5. Do you have any pets? If not, do you want one?
  • I actually have one, but she died 3 years ago. :( Her name was Chynna and she's a Japanese Spitz
6. Who is your favorite author?
  • J.K. Rowling. Hands down.
7. Favorite book boyfriend/girlfriend?
  • Gabriel Owen Emerson from Gabriel's Inferno by Sylvain Reynard! :"> It's from an adult novel but if it's YA, Four from Divergent by Veronica Roth or Patch from Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. Oh damn. I'm a hopeless romantic. haha!
8. If you could be any mythical creature, what would you be?
  • A Mermaid. I want to see the beauty of the ocean and how it's like to be living underwater. (no need for oxygen. haha!) I just need to be careful on sharks. lol
9. Who is your role model? And why?
  • My Mom. She taught me a lot. She's the most selfless, hardworking, and loyal person ever and the best mom in the whole world. She inspired me by her simplicity. She's not perfect but her imperfections makes her perfect. I love my mom so much. <3

10. If you could be any character from a book, who would you be? And what book are you from?
  •  Lovely question! :D I want to be Tris from Divergent. Regardless we have the same name. There was something about her that makes me hooked instantly. Her courageous acts , from someone whose silent turned into someone who can't be underestimated. Small but Terrible. Again, I am a hopeless romantic.... I want Four. hahaha!
